“Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.”
Luke 5:17 NKJV
I’ll never forget when our first son, Josh, was born. He had a severe case of jaundice, and, being a new dad, I felt a new level of desperation when I prayed for him to be healed. As I opened my Bible and read several key scriptures related to healing, I felt something well up inside me. I brought my wife into the room and together we laid our hands on him and prayed for healing. By the time we said “Amen,” his skin had already turned from a sickly yellow back to normal. It was amazing! But what’s even more amazing is that the Holy Spirit didn’t just give me the gift of healing because I’m a pastor; He gives His gifts liberally to everyone.
There’s a phrase I often hear among Christians. Someone will say they have the gift of healing, but there’s a problem with that. Let me say this clearly: No one person has been assigned the gift of healing. The Holy Spirit owns all the gifts, and He gives them as He sees fit. Imagine if someone thought they could only be healed if they met a famous television minister who claimed to possess the gift of healing. They may never meet that minister in person. However, we come into contact with other believers all the time, whether at church or in a small group. They are just as capable of being used by the Holy Spirit as any full-time minister. In fact, if you’ve been filled with the Spirit, you can see healing take place in your own private prayer time. Have you considered the dynamic power available to us through the Holy Spirit?
If you or someone you know is in need of healing right now, the Holy Spirit can give you the gift of healing right where you are. I’ve heard so many stories of people being healed during their prayer times when no one else was around.
Are you ready to open your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to use you?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank You that You give the gift of healing. Thank You that You work through the hands of willing believers and that the gift of healing is available to everyone. Use me today to bring about Your healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
